03/13 Magnetism
Surprise:I was really surprised when we were seeing how different amounts of magnets could hold up different amounts of washers. What surprised me was how the numbers kind of had a pattern, but then it stopped. I was really surprised because I thought it would follow the pattern and the number of washers would increase. I learned that even though you predict an outcome wrong you will learn from it.As well as that I learned that it is okay if I am wrong because it is a prediction. Ex. A girl thinks that in the experiment the magnet will pick up 72 paper clips but it only picks up 37, she learned.
Summary:This week we learned about magnets. We did worksheets, activities, and experiments. First we did a worksheet on Bill Nye the science guy. Then we did some experiments, we made electromagnets, we saw how different amounts of magnets pick up certain amounts of washers, and we tested the poles of a magnet. As well as that we started an activity which I will use in next weeks blog. Overall this week I got a lot accomplished.

Backward-Looking:I knew some about this unit because it was a science unit at my old school.I learned some of this stuff, but this year I am learning in much more depth. I knew that all magnets have a north and south pole, that if you split a magnet both magnets will have a north an south pole, and that opposites attract and likes repel. I learned that a really strong magnet could mess with electronics. Even though I knew some of this unit I am still learning.
Inward-Looking:This week I was satisfied with some things. What was especially satisfying to me was the experiments. It was very interesting because I have done some of them before, but I still learned. I found Bill Nye fascinating as well because he teaches in a very fun way, but I learned from him. I was very satisfied and happy this week.
Outward-Looking: This week I did some of my work like others. In all of the experiments my group and I worked together. On the activity, where we also got in some math, my table and I checked our answers with each other. We checked to make sure we did the math right. I helped out this week which has helped me learn.
Forward-Looking: If I had a chance to redo the work I would. I would redo the experiment when we stacked magnets and tried to collect washers. I want to redo that so my group and I can work faster to test more and more magnets. I would also redo the last activity so I could work a little faster and get more done because the math took a while. There are some things I want to change, but I am happy with my work this week.
