Reflective Blog Unit 4

In Unit four I learned about interdependence of organisms. Organisms have many different relationships like parasitism (one organism benefits and the other is harmed), mutualism (both organisms benefit),and commensalism (one organism benefits and one doesn't care). I learned about deforestation as well. Deforestation is when trees are cut down for mining, logging, space to plant crops, building, and for fun.                          Deforestation! Backward-Looking : I did not know much about this topic before we started. Even though I learned about food web and food chains last year it was not as detail as this one so I did get a lot of information while studying this topic. Now I know about the three kinds of symbiotic relationships (parasitism, mutualism, and commensalism). I know the effects of deforestation(lose plant and animals and lose oxygen and medicines). Overall I enjoyed this topic. Inward-Looking : In this unit I particularly liked the letter to Mr.Cuttatree.

Letter To Mr. Cuttatree

Dear Mr.Cuttatree, I heard that you are thinking about building the Uppitty resort. You should not build the Uppitty resort, because many plants will die, it will cause floods, and many animals will die. If you continue with your plan to build the Uppitty resort, it will cause an unbalanced food web. You're idea to build the Uppitty resort will cause a lot of trouble.  I do not agree with your decision to build the Uppitty resort. Building the Uppitty resort will cause many plants to die. We will have less plants that make medicine.  These medicines are used to cure many diseases. Plants help keep oxygen in the air and without that we couldn't breathe. Building this resort will cause many problems. Cutting down trees will cause floods. It will cause floods because trees' roots make spaces in the soil. When trees are cut down the soil becomes compact. Then, the soil cannot absorb the water. It will stay on the surface and eventually cause a flood.Cutting down trees isn&

Deforestation 11/14

Summary-I learned about deforestation. Many people cut down trees and that is deforestation.   It doesn't help the environment in any way and it creates an unbalanced food web. Deforestation is not good in any way. Backward-Looking- I did not know much about deforestation before we started.  I just knew that deforestation meant to cut down trees.  Now I know why deforestation happens and what happens after deforestation.  Many people cut down trees to mine, to build, and some people do it for fun. Some consequences of deforestation are floods, species extinction(plants and animals), and climate change. Deforestation has more negative reactions than positive. Inward-Looking- I enjoyed the Mr. Cuttatree assignment. I like our writing assignments because I get to work on my writing and it helps me process what I've already learned.  Even though it is fake I love the idea.  I felt that I learned about deforestation in a different way because of this assignment.  I feel good kno

11/ 7 Jaguar

Summary : I learned about jaguars' diet, behavior, and adaptations. They eat monkeys, sloths, ocelots, frogs, snakes, and anything else they can catch.  Jaguars usually live near a source of water, they live by themselves, and they are usually nocturnal(active at night) , but some are crepuscular(active at dawn and dusk). Jaguars have adapted to different sources of water, they have short limbs and a tough jaw to catch prey, and jaguars are able to climb trees in case the rainforest gets flooded.I learned that even if one animal in the food web dies everything will become extinct. Backward-Looking : In the third grade my assignment was to write a report about black bears that was very similar, but not exact to what I did about jaguars.  One difference is that it was not done electronically.  Another difference is that I presented my black bear report.  One similarity was as I was searching for the different categories it didn't show me what I was searching for. I changed th
