Matter and Its Properties 1/30

Surprise: I was surprised to find out that plasma is a state of matter. When I was reading about matter it really shocked me when it said that plasma is a state of matter. It was surprising because even though I knew there were more than three states of matter(solid, liquid, and gas),  it still shocked me because I have heard of plasma just not as a state of matter. I can learn that there might be more to what you already know. Summary: This week we learned more about matter. We learned about the states of matter (solid, liquid, gas, plasma, and Bose-Einstein). We also learned about atoms (what makes up matter). As well as that we learned slightly about compounds and mixtures. We learned a little about the periodic table too. Now I know so much more!!! Backward-Looking: I knew a little about this topic before we started. Now I know that there are 5 states of matter instead of 3. Now I know it's not only solid, liquid, and gas, but there is Bose-Einstein and plasma too. I al

Surprise: I was at home and then I heard the doorbell ring. When I looked outside I was so shocked because it was a present for me. It was a beautiful doll. It was so surprising because I thought I already got all of my gifts. This applies to real life because you never know what's coming (good or bad). Summary: This week we started off with reviewing matter with a Bill Nye video. Then, the rest of the week we continued with all the experiments. Even though it wasn't an M&M, it was powders, it was still quite fun. I am really looking forward to finding out what the unknown powder is. Backward-Looking: I have really gotten better at experiments. I know how to prepare and conduct them. I knew how to I am just getting more and more accurate when I conduct my experiments. Not only that my group has gotten better at distributing the jobs of preparing and conducting an experiment. Now we each get to do something at least once maybe even more. In ward-Looking: This week I e

Surprise: This week I was surprised when I saw that "the line" wasn't a special property of M&Ms.  When we were conducting our experiment and then found our results I was shocked. I really thought "the line" was a special property of M&Ms because of my past experiences. It applies to real life, for example, when someone assumes that salmon will taste good because the last time they ate salmon it was good, but this time it turns out to be disgusting. Summary: This week we continued with doing experiments with M&Ms and it was really nice. At the end of the week we had a note taking day and learned more about matter. I learned the three states of matter solid, liquid, and gas. Then I learned about physical changes in matter tear, cut, fold, written, liquid, solid, gas, mixture, and solution. After that, I learned about chemical changes in matter burning, rusting, cooking, and color change. This week I learned a lot more about matter and its properties

Surprise: I thought the M&Ms' colors would mix, but instead the M&Ms' colors did not mix. Summary: This week we started the unit matter and its properties. We started doing many experiments like, what will happen to an M&M when we put it in water, will the color of M&M affect how fast the color dissolves, and will the colors of the M&Ms mix if we put more than one different color M&M. My hypothesis for the first M&M experiment was correct (color dissolved off the M&M).My hypothesis for the second experiment was incorrect(I thought brown would dissolve faster, but my result was red is the fastest). My hypothesis for the last M&M experiment was incorrect (the colors will blend, but they didn't they just came close to each other). Backward-Looking: I knew a little bit about matter and its properties before we started. I knew some of this unit because I briefly went through this unit last year. We went through it but no
