Summary:
A pure substance is a sample of matter that has definite chemical properties. An element is a pure substance that cannot be separated. A compound is two or more different pure substances that are joined by chemical bonds. A mixture is two or more pure substances that are not chemically bonded. A heterogenous mixture is the least mixed mixture and is the easiest to take apart. An example or way to visualize this would be a salad. A homogeneous mixture, also known as a solution, can be separated by physical means. It appears the same throughout and is well mixed. A solution could be toothpaste or milk.  A colloid is when the particles are not dissolved, but they are mixed. Dissolving is not a chemical change. Fun fact, all living this are mixtures.

S&EP- Conducting Investigations:
We were transported to a castle built my the scientist Dmitri Mendeleev and we needed to get out. Each room was made of a different element in the periodic table. We needed to guess the element to get out. We did this by using the clues that depicted the elements structure and function. For example, the clues we got for room one were that it was composed with three valence electrons, it had thirteen protons, and it was the third most abundant metal in the earth's crust. This was a very helpful set of clues because it gave the number of protons, the identity of the element. Some were not as easy. For instance, room six was an alkali metal, it had four neutrons, and it had one valance electron. We saw that Lithium had an atomic number of three, it's atomic mass was very close to seven, and it was in the row of alkali metals. This fit the description and worked.

XCC-Cause & Effect:
A chemical reaction is a process in which one set of substances are rearranged into a new one. (A reactant yields a product. One way to tell if a chemical reaction was caused is if there is a change in color. Another tell is if there is a new odor or it begins to bubble. If it fizzes or creates gas, it is having a chemical reaction. Heat can cause a chemical reaction, but in some cases just leaving two compounds together can lead to a chemical reaction. In a play.lol game (I can't remember the name), we had to combine different compounds to get what we needed to activate the sensor. By writing down the formula you could really see how the different parts of the compound were rearranged and what caused it. As mentioned above, sometimes it was heat or it was leaving the compounds together. There is what causes the chemical reaction and the effect or way to tell that it occurred.

Multiplier: This week through all the activities I was a mutant, to be more specific a wanderer. This is because I shared any information with my teammates so we could all understand the topic better.
