Matter and its Properties 1/16
Surprise: This week I was surprised when I saw that "the line" wasn't a special property of M&Ms. When we were conducting our experiment and then found our results I was shocked. I really thought "the line" was a special property of M&Ms because of my past experiences. It applies to real life, for example, when someone assumes that salmon will taste good because the last time they ate salmon it was good, but this time it turns out to be disgusting.
Summary: This week we continued with doing experiments with M&Ms and it was really nice. At the end of the week we had a note taking day and learned more about matter. I learned the three states of matter solid, liquid, and gas. Then I learned about physical changes in matter tear, cut, fold, written, liquid, solid, gas, mixture, and solution. After that, I learned about chemical changes in matter burning, rusting, cooking, and color change. This week I learned a lot more about matter and its properties.
Backward-Looking: Last year we briefly covered this topic. We went through a couple of experiments that were all done by the teacher. And last year we didn't do any M&M experiments, but it was still really fun. I can't wait to see what other kinds of experiments we are going to do in this unit. I am excited to learn more about this wonderful topic.
Inward-Looking: I am enjoying all the experiments we are doing. It is really fun to do a new experiment every day. Another thing I enjoyed was getting to illustrate all our experiments. I love drawing and the drawings helped me understand the experiment and my findings. Overall I enjoyed this week.
Outward-Looking: Most of the time our results turned out the same as other groups. And other times our results were different. It's okay if they are different because when you do experiments you will get many different results, especially if you don't use machinery. One of the main differences was the color of M&Ms. But the good part about having different colors, especially for "the line" was cool because we got to see different color combinations for most experiments. Overall my group did some of our experiments the same and some different as other groups.
Forward-Looking: I would like to redo the assignment. I would like to redo the assignment because I would like to use many different colors for all the experiments. I would like to see different colors especially for two M&Ms in one plate because there might be different patterns. I would also like to illustrate my findings again. I'd like to see if I can make my drawings more accurate. Even though there are somethings I'd like to redo I was happy with this week.
