Article Blog 5/29: "Spotlight on STEM"
Surprise:
I was reading the article "Spotlight on STEM" when I was surprised. I was amazed to find out that chefs use STEM. I was shocked when I heard this news because I when I think of chefs STEM doesn't come up. From this I can learn things go deeper than you think. Ex. Someone takes computer science classes. Towards the end of the first year she found out that even doctors use computers.

Summary:
In the article "Spotlight on STEM" it shows how STEM has a big effect, especially as you get older. STEM is interconnected with many things like sports, history, and cooking. At the convention, the kids got explore and experiment using STEM in different ways. They used dough to learn about electricity and they made tiny catapults out of popsicle sticks and launched marshmallows into a cup. As well as that, the kids protected plastic eggs to better understand how padding prevents athletes from getting hurt. The article was on how STEM has a big effect.

Backward-Looking:
I knew a lot about STEM before I read this article because that is the school I go to. Before reading the article I already knew so much about STEM and how it is used. The one main reason that STEM is so important is because it is used in many jobs. The one thing I didn't know before reading the article is that chefs use STEM. Even though I knew a lot about STEM before reading "Spotlight on STEM" I learned a lot.
Inward-Looking:
I chose the article "Spotlight on STEM" because I am a STEM student. I was hoping to learn more about STEM. I did learn more about STEM and it was very informative. I'm very glad that I read this article because now I know how big of an impact STEM has. This article made me realize that I am so lucky that I am a STEM student. I chose this article because I wanted to learn about my school base.
Outward-Looking:
I think this article on STEM will have a big impact in the future. I believe the area STEM will have the most affect on is job wise. STEM has already impacted so many jobs, I am sure that it will affect more. If there are more and more people getting introduced to STEM there will be more schools and jobs including STEM. I think STEM will have an affect in the future.
Forward-Looking:
There is one main topic I think the author should expand on. I think the author should see if there are any STEAM conventions going to be held. I think she should write about that as well, even though it is pretty much the same thing as STEM. I would love to compare the two articles to see the difference in the kid activities. If the author wrote on STEAM conventions I would really love to read it.
