Summary:
Finding out about our new project started the studying of natural disasters. Natural disasters are huge disasters such as wildfires, thunderstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes, winter storms (blizzards), earthquakes and tsunamis. Natural disasters cause tons of damage to the area it occurs. Each natural disaster has certain "ingredients" which makes the disaster form. As well as that, the geographical occurrence differs based of the natural disaster.
Wildfires- Caused by heat waves and droughts, as well as climate changes
Can occur anywhere, but usually in grasslands or scrub lands
Thunderstorms- Caused by warm air, moisture, and a breeze
Can occur anywhere, but usually towards the southeast
Hurricanes- Caused by warm ocean water and wind in the same direction as the hurricane
Can occur over the ocean, in the USA it occurs in the southeast
Tornadoes- Caused by thunderstorms and thunderstorm clouds, low level moisture, and                       strong winds
Can occur in the southeast but mainly Midwest, the tornado alley.
These are the four natural disasters that my partner have gotten information on so far.

SP8: Obtain, evaluate and communicate information:
  • I used scientific text to find important information, evidence and ideas. I read about natural disasters on http://www.weatherwizkids.com/. This led me to understand that wildfires, thunderstorms, hurricanes, and tornadoes are different yet some of them interconnect. For example, hurricanes are basically tornadoes or twisters over water. In other cases one natural disaster leads to another, a factor in tornado formation are thunderstorm clouds. I learned more about natural disasters, what they are, how they form, and how they effect each other.
