Welcome

Three things I like about this class is that we do a lot of hands-on work, we watch a lot of videos about science and I love how we use so much technology.

Image: Pierre Kleinhouse Summary:  When we think of evolution we see monkeys magically turning into humans, but what is missing from that picture is the portion below it that makes it a cladogram. What is a cladogram? A cladogram is a diagram that shows the common characteristics of certain animals, as well as how closely related they may be. The top of the cladogram includes the organisms name and sometimes a picture. On the side of the cladogram, you will usually see different characteristics. Since a cladogram is drawn at a downward angle, the characteristic applies to everything above that point on the diagram. As you go up the cladogram, the animal at the top has all the characteristics listed throughout the cladogram. Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures: 4/2/17

Image: Google Sites Summary: A pure substance is a sample of matter that has definite chemical properties. An element is a pure substance that cannot be separated. A compound is two or more different pure substances that are joined by chemical bonds. A mixture is two or more pure substances that are not chemically bonded. A heterogenous mixture is the least mixed mixture and is the easiest to take apart. An example or way to visualize this would be a salad. A homogeneous mixture, also known as a solution, can be separated by physical means. It appears the same throughout and is well mixed. A solution could be toothpaste or milk.  A colloid is when the particles are not dissolved, but they are mixed. Dissolving is not a chemical change. Fun fact, all living this are mixtures. Image:  YouTube Summary: Chronic stress, or long-lasting stress, can make you feel isolated, overwhelmed and make you have sudden changes in mood. An example of chronic stress is getting overworked on a regular basis. When you are overworked and you are stressed about what you have to complete the size, function, and structure of your brain are affected. After a natural disaster, people are overcome with feeling shock, but that eventually morphs into guilt, depression, and anxiety. People who are suffering from the loss of a loved one, can feel helpless and powerless. The traumatic effects of natural disasters, no matter the natural disaster, show that victims suffer from PTSD and guilt of surviving. This is because, although not all disasters are the same, the survivors all endured a catastrophic, life-changing event, in which they experienced loss.
