Why I Returned To AdVENTURE? 8/21/17

My name is Sohini Pillay and I am an 8th grader at AdVenture, a STEM program. As any other student, I go to school and complete the work I am assigned. I walked into class posed with the question of, "Why I returned to AdVenture?" I had to think about this for a while before I realized that I had never stopped to think of it before. I have been a student at this school starting in 5th grade and it has been second nature to go to this school there ever since. Although there are many, many wonderful things about AdVenture there are some main aspects that keep most students from leaving, including me.

One of the reasons my parents and I decided for me to continue learning at AdVenture is because I am going into the 8th grade. I know you're probably thinking, "It's just the 8th grade," but most people don't understand that transferring to a new school for one year is pointless and more work than it has to be. If I moved schools I would have to get acquainted with the teachers, students, curriculum, and schedule which is difficult when you are trying to balance an 8th graders work load. It's great if you are returning to an old school because it requires no transition time.

In addition to that, there is no other school like AdVenture. Its unique project based learning combined with a 21st-century atmosphere makes it hard to leave. As soon as I began as a student in 5th grade, the AdVenture curriculum has been setting me up for success through team building projects, introducing me to new kinds of technology and constantly challenging me. You can't find another school in which every student works with one another using technology. As my teachers say our technology is a privilege, and I believe our project based learning is, as well.

Lastly, I have known most of my classmates and teachers since I joined the school in 5th grade. We have all become so close and supportive of each other, it's hard to leave that family and nurturing environment. Every single teacher I have had pushes me to go above and beyond the limits, whether it be academics, socially or logically. Everyone at this school has my best interest at heart, as do I for them. AdVenture is amazing with top of the line project based learning, and a home that becomes yours the moment you join.
