Reflective Blog Unit 4

In Unit four I learned about interdependence of organisms. Organisms have many different relationships like parasitism (one organism benefits and the other is harmed), mutualism (both organisms benefit),and commensalism (one organism benefits and one doesn't care). I learned about deforestation as well. Deforestation is when trees are cut down for mining, logging, space to plant crops, building, and for fun.

                         Deforestation!

Backward-Looking : I did not know much about this topic before we started. Even though I learned about food web and food chains last year it was not as detail as this one so I did get a lot of information while studying this topic. Now I know about the three kinds of symbiotic relationships (parasitism, mutualism, and commensalism). I know the effects of deforestation(lose plant and animals and lose oxygen and medicines). Overall I enjoyed this topic.

Inward-Looking : In this unit I particularly liked the letter to Mr.Cuttatree. I enjoyed it because I got to practice writing as I was learning science. I was disappointed with my grade on the Interdependence of Organisms. I got number fourteen and number six wrong. Number six was which animal is most likely to the carry seeds found in berries from the parent to another area and I answered flies, but the correct answer is birds.Number fourteen was
This is a four part question. Make sure you identify each answer with the correct letter.
Select one producer or consumer and predict what would happen if it all died or left the area suddenly.
a. Which one did you pick? ___________________________. Was it a
producer or consumer? _________________________
b. Which species would be most affected by the loss of the one you
picked?
c. Which species would be able to survive by eating other sources?
d. Is there any species that would not be affected? Why?

I put these as my answers.
a. grass
b. producer
c. cow
d. I think all animals in that food web will become extinct, because everything connects and eventually even animals in that food web that don't eat grass will die

I should have put  A. carrots/producer, B. rabbit, C. Rabbits would be able to eat grass, D. I think all animals in that food web will become extinct, because everything connects and eventually even animals in that food web that don't eat carrots will die because grass will become extinct because that will be all the rabbit is eating since the carrots are gone, then the rabbit will become extinct, after that foxes will become extinct, then birds will become overpopulated, after grasshoppers and grains will become extinct and then so will the birds, next the mice will die because it has no food leading to the extinction of the owls.

Outward-Looking :I think if people looked at my work they would learn a lot about me, especially the Mr.Cuttatree assignment. If someone were to look at my Mr.Cuttatree assignment they would learn that I am descriptive and detailed. They will learn that I do my research before I write. If someone read my Mr. Cuttatree assignment they will know I studied before I made my argument.  Whoever reads my work will learn how I learn as well as how I write.

Forward-Looking : My goal for next week would be to completely understand the atmosphere. I would like to know all four layers of the atmosphere and the differences. I would like to know if the layers have a big effect on each other and what that effect is. I want to know what can or cannot happen to the atmosphere. I want to be able to know the atmosphere.
